The most important components in the power flow of a machine tool include the guide rails used to move the support and table. The special requirements for the guide rail are high working accuracy and high performance. The dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the workpiece to be processed particularly depend on the "stick-slip" degree of freedom of the base and the guiding system.
In order to achieve the best accuracy, the rail oil used is particularly important. What is stickiness?
The cause of stick-slip is the frictional vibration caused by the constantly changing friction between the machine tool holder (tool and workpiece) or the slider and its guide rail. The same applies to linear guide systems. When the machine tool slides move, high friction and separation forces are generated. The roughness peaks on the two contact surfaces will be embedded in each other as the specific pressure increases. They must be superimposed on each other and the separation force must be overcome. The special guiding oil and its additives help to form a lubricating film on the surface.
